CESA Cross-Cultural Leadership Program

The Cross Cultural Leadership Program has served students through a one hour course offered in conjunction with Ethnic studies and instructed by CESA staff.

In the future we hope to build this program into a three hour course taught by faculty with a service learning component to foster and support students in community engagement.

Here are some highlights from the course syllabus associated with this program:

  • The Center for Ethnic Students Affairs (CESA) has provided support to students and student organizations that represent diverse communities. The students and leaders that CESA has supported have consequently made important contributions to improving the campus climate for students of color and others at the University of Utah. Student leaders continue to make powerful contributions to the development of CESA. This is part of the legacy of cross-cultural communication, collaboration, and action between CESA student organizations.
  • The cross-cultural leadership course seeks to recognize this legacy and provide a space to explore future collaborations among students of color. The course will provides a forum for students to critically reflect on the meaning of leadership and challenges students to formulate cross cultural leadership opportunities and strategies. Our goal is for students to make connections between the leadership skills they currently practice and the theoretical frameworks they will study through out the course.
