Chicano Scholarship Funds Awarded

Scholarship recipients

Eleven $1,000 scholarships are received.

 

The Chicano Scholarship Fund at the University of Utah awarded eleven, $1,000 Chicano Scholarships, and the renewal of two full-ride Ibarra Foundation Scholarships at the annual scholarship banquet, Friday, September 21, 2007 at the U of U Union Ballroom.

This year’s recipients include high school students, Christopher Jerok Giauque, Eduardo Reyes, Jorge A. Zendejas, Stacey Murguia, Tiffany Mondragon and Yamila Belen Martinez.  Undergraduate recipients include Brenda Robles, a speech communication major, Christopher Macias who is majoring in history and Leticia Torres-Ericson who is studying theatre with an emphasis in acting.  Law student, Aaron Tarin and medical student, Maria Teresa Arce-Larreta were among the graduate student recipients. 

Students were chosen based on their academic achievement, involvement in community service, and those who are closely connected to the Hispanic/Latino community.

Throughout its thirty-two year history the Chicano Scholarship fund has awarded more than 340 scholarships to virtually every race. This year the scholarship deadline is January 31st. For more information or to apply online please visit the Chicano Scholarship Fund web site at: www.chicano.utah.edu
