Over 100 Northwest Middle School students to participate
The LEAP Peer Advisors will host their annual "See You at the U" event for students from Northwest Middle School on November 15th. About 100 students from Northwest will spend the day on our campus visiting select departments, having lunch at the Heritage Center, and bowling. These students come from immigrant and/or refugee families, and many do not speak English. The "See You at the U" event is meant to introduce them to the idea that a college education can be a part of their future goals. Many people from campus donate time and items for the students' "goody bags", and we are very grateful for the support. LEAP stands for Learning, Engagement, Achievement Program and is a year-long learning community for entering University students. It consists of two three-credit-hour courses – one fall semester, one spring semester – taken with the same professor and classmates, allowing students to build community.
