When did cosmetic surgery become common practice, the stuff of everyday conversation? Blum combines a provocative ethnography of plastic surgery with a penetrating analysis of beauty and feminism to search out the social conditions and imperatives that have made ours a culture of cosmetic surgery. Blum is author of Flesh Wounds: The Culture of Cosmetic Surgery and professor of English at the University of Kentucky. A book signing will follow. |
