Educational Opportunities Programs – TRIO
The Office of Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP) is comprised of both Upward Bound and Student Support Services Projects, two of the Federal TRIO Programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education under Title IV of the Higher Education Act of 1965, as amended.
The defined mission of these programs is “To identify qualified individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds, to prepare them for a program of postsecondary education, to provide support services for such students who are pursuing programs of postsecondary education."
In addition, the broader mission of the University's EOP is to advocate for policies and procedures that improve the institutional climate for disadvantaged and underrepresented students and to ensure that educational access and retention for disadvantaged students is an institutional objective. www.sa.utah.edu/eop/

Student Support Services
Student Support Services is a program for University students from low income families, first generation college students, and/or students with physical or learning disabilities. It is a program for students who need academic assistance and other services to be successful at the University. Funded by a federal grant to the University, the project provides advising, instruction, and tutoring for eligible students.
Upward Bound
Upward Bound is a postsecondary “access” program for youth from low income families who are potential first generation college students. Participants are high school students who have potential to succeed at the postsecondary level but who are not likely to complete high school and/or enroll in college. The project provides these youth with academic and social support to encourage postsecondary enrollment. Services provided by the program include academic and career counseling, tutoring, college tours, college scholarship and financial aid workshops, career exploration opportunities, cultural enrichment activities, ACT preparation workshops, community service opportunities, and an intensive six-week summer academic enrichment program (which includes living on campus). The project serves East, Highland, West, Granite, and Kearns High Schools.
