School of Medicine
The School of Medicine has three major missions: education, research, and clinical service. The three missions are closely interrelated. Each supports and, in turn, benefits from the others. All are considered to be of equal importance. The school has 25 departments.
The Office of Diversity and Community Outreach at the U of U School of Medicine provides information and support for individuals wanting to pursue a career in medicine. They serve all students, with an emphasis on students of color and women, but also serve other underrepresented populations like nontraditional students and LGBT students. They advise at the high school and college level, assisting with preparatory resources, applications, and helping students prepare a plan and time line. Programs include: Expanded Indian Nations Outreach Program; Title I Schools: Outreach for Science Literacy, and Future Doctors, among others. The school also has a association of minority medical students. For information about the School of Medicine visit the diversity web site at: www.uuhsc.utah.edu/som/diversity/index.html.
