Ethnic Studies Program

The Ethnic Studies Program is a scholarly academic program with focus on the distinctive social, political, cultural, linguistic and historical experiences of ethnic minorities in the United States.  Its specific foci are the cultures, histories and experiences of American Indians and Americans of African, Asian, and Mexican descent. Moreover, the program is extensively involved in service to the wider racial/ethnic communities in the state of Utah, not merely populations found in the Wasatch Front, but particularly those found on reservations on the borders of Utah and surrounding the western and southwestern states. The Ethnic Studies Program annually sponsors the African American, the Asian American, the Asian-Pacific Islander, the American Indian and the Chicana/o Awareness celebrations. The Ethnic Studies Program assists the community-based Chicano Scholarship Committee in the coordination of its annual awards.
