As an outreach professional and international student advisor, Anjali helps international students and scholars to adjust to their life on campus. She answers questions about how to transition from their home country to academic life. She also develops programs that allow students to gain cultural competence by working with international or study abroad students. Some of their programs include:

The International Student Council (ISC). This club is primarily a social organization for international students and any other students who would like to get involved.  The ISC organizes regular activities, trips around Utah, workshops, and the University’s International Night event.  The ISC also maintains an e-mail list for members to post and receive information about upcoming events on campus and in Salt Lake City, moving sales, rooms and apartments for rent, etc.  For more information visit www.utah.edu/isc

International Women’s Association.  Women from all over the world (including the USA) are invited to join this association that provides a place for friendship and learning and ensures all international women are welcomed into the U of U community.  We meet every Tuesday at noon in the Union food court.  Spouses and women with children meet every third Friday at the West Community Center in the University Student Apartments. Enjoy social and cultural activities, service projects, and professional development workshops.  For more information visit www.utah.edu/iwa.

The International Ambassadors Program. This program matches all incoming international students with globally minded students (American and international) who are familiar with the campus and Salt Lake City.  New international students will meet their Ambassadors during International Student Orientation.  Ambassadors will be prepared to answer many questions about a variety of topics such as life at the U, where to find housing and groceries, adjusting to American culture, and so much more!  If you would like to help new students transition to the U, then this program is for you.

Cross Culture Club.  This club is committed to crossing cultural boundaries by providing points of interaction between Americans and international students.  Activities include field trips and social activities every month. The Cross Culture Club is a great way to get involved with the international community and meet new friends.  For more information visit www.utah.edu/crosscultureclub.

Language Exchange Program.  The Language Exchange Program is an opportunity for cross-cultural communication through language development.  Non-native English speakers are matched with native English speakers for a conversation exchange.  Through this program, participants can practice the target language and communication skills, learn about another culture, and share their linguistic and cultural knowledge.  E-mail ethompson@sa.utah.edu for more information.

The Friendship Family Program links international students with American families in the community to give Americans a chance to meet people from all over the world and to allow internationals to visit an American home.  Lifelong friendships are formed through this program.

International Clubs.  There are several independent organizations for students from specific countries or regions of the world:  Chinese Students and Scholars Associations (Mainland China); Chinese Student Association; Indian Student Association; Korean Student Association; Vietnamese Student Association; Hong Kong Student Alliance.
