The primary goal of the Office of the Assistant Vice President for Health Sciences Diversity is to find effective strategies to address disparities in health care based on race, ethnicity, creed, and gender. Working closely with the Office of Diversity and Community Outreach in the School of Medicine and Undergraduate Sciences on central campus, the office sponsors upwards of 25 different outreach programs from elementary school to the collegiate level in order to foster a rich educational pipeline of diverse, well-qualified students to apply and matriculate to graduate health sciences programs such as Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Health. Prof. Theresa A. Martinez administers the Utah College Advising Corps through a $1 million grant through the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation, the Zions-ELI Scholarship Program, the Osher Reentry Scholarship Program, the Youth Education Scholarship Program, the Transfer Board Initiative, and the LEAP Elementary School Template Project. She also collaborates with the /Adelante/ Partnership and the Peer Mentoring Program through the Center for Ethnic Student Affairs. In addition, Martinez works in conjunction with the Women’s Resource Center, UNP, U Community Outreach for Diversity, and others to administer campus-wide community outreach work. The Office of Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action is responsible for investigating allegations of discrimination and sexual harassment.  The office also evaluates employee accommodation requests made under the Americans with Disabilities Act.  They generate all diversity reports required by the federal government, including the University's Affirmative Action Program (AAP).

Community Outreach for Diversity, within University Marketing and Communications, serves the University as a liaison to Utah’s ethnic communities and the media.  Her role is to increase awareness and understanding of the important role of higher education, facilitate the increase of the number of students of color who pursue and achieve higher education degrees, and increase opportunities for community partnerships. The office works with area media, and facilitates the communication flow on campus to support and enhance diversity outreach.
